Counselling FAQ's
What does a first session involve?
In our first session together I will share some practical information and ask some questions to help me understand what has brought you to therapy at this time. I then do a well-being questionnaire with all my clients to help me get a picture of what might be helpful for us to focus on in our work together. The rest of the time is for you to use however it feels helpful to you. Parents/carers of under 18’s can be present for part of this first session if the young person would like support.
I’m a parent/carer, how am I involved in the therapeutic process?
Research shows that parent/carer involvement in the therapeutic process supports positive outcomes. Parents/carers and teens are invited to explore how much, if at all, they want the parent/carer to be involved in their therapy. The boundaries and options for this will be explored with me in our initial session. More details on what this looks like in practice are shared in the contract.
What are the limits of confidentiality for under 18’s?
It is essential for the strength of the therapeutic relationship that your child knows it is a safe and confidential space. Anything your teen shares with me in a counselling session is confidential unless I have express permission from them to share it with you, or there is a safeguarding issue.
What qualifications do you have?
Level 4 in counselling

I also have CPD in the areas of parent coaching and creating secure attachment in teens.

Do we have to share on a deep personal level as a team?
How deep and personal you get as a team is up to you as individuals and as an organisation. During our first session together we will spend some time exploring the boundaries and values you want to operate by as a group. These parameters are agreed upon by the team. Some individuals may share more deeply and others may hold different boundaries, all ends of the spectrum are welcome.
Are you part of a professional body?

Spiritual Direction FAQ's
Does it matter what denomination I am?
Although spiritual direction is often associated with the Anglican and Catholic traditions it is a practice that welcomes those of all backgrounds.
Can I have spiritual direction if I wouldn’t call myself a Christian?
Spiritual Direction is for those who are exploring faith, just beginning their walk of faith or those who have been Christians for many years. All stages of the journey are welcome.
I’m exploring vocation and/or ministry. Is Spiritual direction right for me?
Spiritual direction can be a great tool to help you explore your vocation and what God may have for you in the next season of your life. It is a space to take time out of your everyday life, slow down and tune in to where and how God is leading you.
Why do you charge for Spiritual direction?
I charge for spiritual direction because this is part of my professional work as a self-employed counsellor, supervisor, and spiritual director,  it enables me to sustain my work and support my family. After many years of training in theology and counselling, I offer spiritual direction as a skilled and attentive service that I believe has real value. That said, I never want finances to be a barrier. If cost is a concern for you, please do get in touch and we can talk together about possible concessions.
